Helix just crossed 4.8K downloads on PyPI. I'm not going to pretend that's not a good feeling.
I built it because I kept hitting the same two walls on every agent project: API bills that spiked without warning, and agents that forgot everything the moment a run ended. Why I Built Helix has the longer version of that story. This post is just the update.
Here's what's actually in the framework right now:
- Cost governance — set a hard budget instead of finding out what you spent at the end of the month.
- Persistent memory — agents keep what they learned across runs instead of starting from zero every time.
- Semantic caching — near-duplicate queries skip the API call, which cut our own costs by 40 to 70 percent.
- Multi-agent teams — agents that coordinate on a task, not just run side by side doing their own thing.
It's still early, and there's a lot left to build. But the part that actually gets me is watching people I've never met pip install it and put it to work on problems I never designed for. That's a different kind of pressure than shipping something only your own team depends on, and it's the good kind.

What's the actual number behind the 40-70% caching claim?
That's the real range observed across different workloads, not a single cherry-picked run. Workloads with a lot of near-duplicate queries, like support workflows, land at the high end. More open-ended workloads land lower.
What's next for Helix?
More real-world usage feedback, since issues from people outside the original use case are the fastest way to find what's actually missing. The core pieces, cost governance, memory, caching, and multi-agent coordination, will keep getting hardened rather than expanded into unrelated features.
